ToolHound Mobile 4, ToolHound’s Award-Winning Tool and Equipment Tracking Solution, is Now RFID Enabled

March 15th, 2010   |   Posted by: superadmin

March 15th, 2010 – St. Albert, Alberta – ToolHound announces the release of ToolHound Mobile 4 with RFID capabilities.

From utilities to construction sites to petrochemical industries and tool rental companies, it’s crucial to have the right tool in the right place at the right time. Organizations that cannot identify and locate their tools and equipment readily often experience delays in production, increased tool and equipment maintenance or replacement expenditures or, worse, total work stoppages.

ToolHound’s award winning tool inventory tracking software is one way to ease these problems. This software has traditionally used barcode tracking systems, which rely on barcodes that are affixed to tools and equipment. When an item is needed from the tool crib, the barcode is scanned and assigned to an employee or job in the database. Now with the release of ToolHound Mobile 4 with RFID capabilities, ToolHound is taking tool tracking technology to a new level.

“At ToolHound, we recognize that RFID tags are the next step in the evolution of tool and equipment management solutions.” Comments Dean Perry, President of ToolHound, “Users will recognize immediate returns when using RFID technology for tool tracking, such as considerable increases in productivity and minimized maintenance and replacement costs.”

There are innumerable benefits associated with RFID use in tool and equipment management:

  • With RFID, multiple tags can be read simultaneously – resulting in faster transactions.
  • RFID tags do not require line of sight to read so they can be read through dirt and grime or put inside tools and equipment.

“Tool and equipment tracking using ToolHound RFID technology gives tool cribs a chance to increase their return on a valuable investment,” concludes Mr. Perry, “…all while increasing staff accountability and traceability of company assets.”

ToolHound is committed to providing ongoing value to their customers through continuous advancement of the ToolHound tool control solution and by staying on top of the most recent technologies available on the market.

Habitat for Humanity Has Gone to the Dogs…. With a Powerful Tool Tracking Solution Donated by ToolHound

January 8th, 2010   |   Posted by: superadmin

St. Albert, Alberta, January 8th, 2010 – Today, ToolHound made public their recent partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley Illinois.

Habitat for Humanity is a charitable organization with much of the labour performed on their construction projects provided by volunteers, while land, materials, and money are donated by individuals, organizations, and corporations. As a result of tight budgets, they need to maintain close monitoring of their equipment and tool inventory.

“Without the support of ToolHound we would not have been able to implement this type of inventory tracking system,” commented Bill Klaves, Development Director for Habitat for Humanity. “Once the solution is up and running we will not only significantly decrease productivity loss due to misplaced tools, but we will save thousands in tool and equipment replacement costs over time.”

Habitat for Humanity is currently implementing the ToolHound construction inventory management solution, including the ToolHound Desktop Tracking Kit, and they hope to go live for the beginning of the build season in March 2010.

“So far ToolHound has been easy to implement, even for a non-technical person like myself,” remarked Ryan Yarzak, the Lead on the project at Habitat for Humanity. “We are currently working on creating inventories of our exiting tool assets and barcoding these assets in order to load them into the system. This process has also been a great excuse to clean up our tool room.”

The ToolHound inventory management system will provide the branch with a centralized tool tracking solution. A site manager will be able to check out tools and equipment and transport them to construction sites. This will give Habitat for Humanity a real-time view of equipment inventory levels and locations. In addition, Habitat for Humanity will more easily be able to differentiate between tools brought in by volunteers and tools provided by the organization.

“Rather than replacing lost tools, Habitat for Humanity needs to put the money and materials where they are needed – into building new homes,” acknowledged Dean Perry, President of ToolHound. “We are proud to be working with Habitat for Humanity and hope to expand our support to other interested branches of the organization in the future.”

Today, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 300,000 houses, sheltering more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide.
